MANGALURU: Tension continues in the coastal city of Mangaluru following the bandh called by Hindu organisations on Friday in protest against the murder of Suhas Shetty (42).
Suhas had five criminal cases registered against him — four in Mangaluru city and one in the Dakshina Kannada district.
Shetty was one of the accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil, a 23-year-old resident of Mangalapete in Katipalla.
Fazil's murder had sparked widespread unrest and tension across the coastal region, leading to tensions and reactions from various sections of society.
Authorities have launched an intensive manhunt to track down the culprits, while also maintaining heightened vigilance to prevent any flare-up of tensions in the area.
On Thursday around 8.30 pm, Suhas Shetty was attacked near Kinnipadavu Cross when a group of assailants intercepted his vehicle. He was assaulted with deadly weapons and later died at AJ Hospital.
Police have registered a murder case and launched a manhunt. Prohibitory orders have been imposed across Mangaluru City to prevent unrest, banning public gatherings and potential weapons.
The incident is believed to be pre-planned, though the motive remains unclear. Security has been tightened, and police patrols are ongoing to maintain order after reports of minor violence.
