Gorakhpur: Two people were killed while seven others sustained serious injuries on Sunday morning after an ambulance en route from Lucknow to Madhuban collided with a trailer on Ram-Janki Marg near Gayaghat village in Barhalganj.
The injured were admitted to Durgavati Hospital in Barhalganj. Swati (22), she was referred to the district hospital for advanced treatment after her condition became critical.
Satyendra Prasad of Madhuban in Mau district, was travelling with his family, carrying the mortal remains of his 75-year-old father, Jaglal Prasad, from Lucknow to Madhuban. As the ambulance reached Gayaghat village around 6am, a speeding trailer approaching from Barhalganj rammed into it.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the ambulance was completely mangled. The accident claimed the lives of 40-year-old Lal Bahadur and 55-year-old Tara Devi, both from Madhuban. Those injured were identified as 40-year-old Satyendra Prasad, his wife Laxmi Devi, their 22-year-old daughter Swati, eight-year-old son Shaurya, 10-year-old daughter Saatvik, Anita Rai (wife of Vinod), and the ambulance driver Jahangir from Barabanki.
Upon receiving the information, administrative officials arrived at the spot to assess the situation. SDM Prashant Verma, CO Manoj Kumar Pandey, and Naib Tehsildar Jaiprakash visited the hospital to check on the injured. The police registered a case against the trailer driver and initiated an investigation.
SP (South) Jitendra Kumar confirmed that the families of the deceased were informed and said that the injured are currently in stable condition.
