Gorakhpur: In a major step towards enhancing waste management and developing Gorakhpur as a model city, Chief Minister
Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the newly-constructed Garbage Transfer Station (GTS) at Chargawan on Tuesday.
Built at a cost of Rs 9.89 crore under the National Air Clean Programme, the facility will streamline waste processing across 40 wards of the city.
The GTS is equipped to handle up to 200 tonnes of waste daily. Collected through the unicipal corporation's door-to-door vehicles, the waste will be sorted into dry and wet categories at the station. It will then be compacted into sealed capsules using a compressor system.
These compressed waste capsules will be transported to Sutahni (Sahjanwa), where NTPC has established a plant to convert waste into charcoal for energy production.
Officials said that transporting waste in fully sealed capsules will also help minimize air pollution during transit.
Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sogarwal said the new system would eliminate open dumping of waste, significantly improving urban hygiene and environmental standards.
The GTS is a key component of the emerging Integrated Waste Management City project in Sutahni, where NTPC's waste-to-energy initiatives are set to play a pivotal role.
