The City of Miami Beach has officially decided to take back the key to the city it awarded to music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2015. This decision came after disturbing allegations against Diddy surfaced, leading city officials to distance themselves from the rapper. The city commission voted unanimously on October 30 to revoke the honor, and the action is pending final certification from the mayor, Steven Weiner.
Miami Beach Vice Mayor Alex Fernandez spoke with CBS Miami, expressing strong disapproval over the allegations against Diddy, calling them “disgusting,” “dirty,” and “inhumane.” Fernandez emphasized that while this step is small, it’s a way for the city to show support for those who suffered because of the alleged actions.

The controversy surrounding Diddy has also extended to New York City. Last year, New York Mayor Eric Adams took similar action, rescinding Diddy’s key to the city after CNN aired hotel footage from 2016 that reportedly showed Diddy involved in a violent incident with his ex-partner, Cassie Ventura. This footage was revealed soon after Cassie filed a lawsuit in November 2023, accusing Diddy of physical and sexual abuse during their relationship. Although they settled the case one day after it was filed, it prompted a wave of similar lawsuits against Diddy, some of which are still ongoing.

Diddy, 54, is currently held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting his trial scheduled for May 2025. Charged with serious offenses including sex trafficking, racketeering, and the transportation of individuals for prostitution, Diddy has pleaded not guilty and denies all accusations. He has been denied bail twice, adding to the legal challenges he faces.
As these cases unfold, cities like Miami Beach and New York are taking actions to dissociate themselves from Diddy, reflecting public concerns and showing solidarity with alleged victims.
