Music has to be about connection, not just numbers: B Praak
B Praak
With hits like Filhall and Mann Bharrya, B Praak has garnered a loyal set of fans. He says, “When music is made with love and sincerity, it reaches the audience naturally.” In a chat, the singer-composer talks about the growing craze for Punjabi music, taking up Bollywood projects and more.
‘Punjabi music has a soul that connects with the audience’
Talking about the growing popularity of Punjabi music, Praak, a prominent name in the Punjabi music industry, says, “Punjabi music has a soul that connects instantly. It’s pure emotion, whether it’s in the words or the beats. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel alive—whether you’re dancing or listening quietly. I think it stands out because it reflects our culture, traditions, and stories. Even if someone doesn’t understand the language fully, they can feel the vibe.”
Asked about the trend of recreating Punjabi songs in Bollywood, the Maaye
singer adds, “Every song has its own soul, and it’s important to respect that while recreating it. If the emotions and meaning of the song remain intact, it can still touch people’s hearts. But sometimes, the rawness and simplicity of the original song might get lost in trying to make it more commercial.”
‘My music comes from my experiences’

While his hits have made fans groove and swoon, B Praak says that sometimes, success can put pressure on an artiste while creating new music. He says, “There is pressure, but I see it as love from my fans. They believe in me, and that inspires me to create music that’s true to my soul. Songs like Pachtaoge (music by him, sung by Arijit Singh) and Mann Bharrya came from a very real place in my heart, and I always try to keep that honesty alive. When music is made with love and sincerity, it reaches the audience naturally. I think staying true to who you are is the key. My music comes from my experiences, my emotions, and my roots. Trends don’t bother me because every artiste has their own voice, and that’s what makes music so beautiful. I also believe in evolving, but without losing the essence of who I am. Music should always be about connection, not numbers (views and likes). It’s not about going viral. At concerts, it’s important to give fans a real experience. They come for live music and energy, and that’s what we owe them as artistes.”
‘Bollywood happened naturally; I didn’t plan it’

On joining the Hindi film industry after a successful stint in the Punjabi industry, the singer says, “It happened naturally. My focus has always been to make good music—music that feels real and connects with people. Bollywood wasn’t something I planned, but I believe when you work with pure intentions, the right opportunities come to you. It’s been a beautiful journey, and I’m thankful for it.”
