Who is Kash Patel?

Kash Patel was born in Garden City, New York. His Indian Gujarati immigrant parents first moved to Canada in the early 1970s from Uganda in East Africa, where they faced ethnic repression. Later, as Patel’s father started working as a financial officer at an aviation firm, the family moved to the United States.

Patel, who is widely known for his harsh remarks about Russia and support of Trump, is not married despite some reports that he tied the knot in a “secret” Hindu wedding. While Patel's work life is widely known, information regarding his personal life has been less accessible in the public domain.

Patel’s 69-year-old maternal uncle (in Gujarat’s Vidyanagar) revealed while speaking to The Indian Express that, Kashyap, a Republican, is a first-generation ‘politician’ as both sides of his family have no political links in India or the United States of America. Patel’s uncle also revealed that the family is “anxiously waiting” for his confirmation as his success is “self-made”.

As per Patel’s uncle, “My sister (Anjana) and brother-in-law (Pramod) were in Vadodara, where they own an apartment and visit regularly. They were unsure about the dates of the confirmation when they arrived in India but were able to go back in time once it was confirmed. Patel’s Indian roots:

As his uncle revealed, Patel is a devotee of Lord Shiva, Ganesha, and Hanuman, and visits India regularly. He said, “At his apartment in Washington DC, he has a separate temple space dedicated to the gods…He is known as ‘Kash’ across the world but for the family he is Kashyap.”

On Thursday, Patel was seen greeting his parents with a “Jai Shri Krishna” at the beginning of the hearing and he also touched their feet at the end of the hearing; which made quite a stor on the internet leading the media discussion about his regular emphasis on his “Indian roots”.

Patel previously had mentioned that his parents (Pramod and Anjana) had “traveled all the way from India” to be with him during the hearing as they were in the country on an annual vacation since the dates for the hearing were not confirmed when they planned the visit. Patel also acknowledged his sister Nisha who “traveled the oceans” to be by his side. His sister Nisha is based in London.
