Smart Zoi system explained in InZoi

There has always been a streak of innovation in the gaming industry, but Krafton's InZoi makes a bold foray into experimental territory with its Smart Zoi feature. Aimed at increasing immersion with the latest AI technology, Smart Zoi allows NPCs to turn into highly interactive and semi-autonomous playable entities. While still in the early days, this system provides an exciting sneak peek into the day-to-day AI-informed future of gaming.

The fundamental aspect of Smart Zoi is that it gives Zois, which are InZoi NPCs, behaviors, inner thoughts, and personalities that may be customized. Smart Zoi departs from orthodox NPC design whereby NPCs are subjected to pre-set routines. Here, players define the action flows for their Zois, thereby providing dynamism to their NPCs and responsiveness to their simulations. This means that the Zois can make decisions on their own accord based on personality. For instance, a charitable Zoi may just decide to buy some food for a homeless character while an imaginative Zoi may opt to stop and enjoy a performance by a street artist.


Smart Zoi is based on a highly developed AI framework that permits Zois to observe and learn from everyday happenings. Their choices influence one another, hence every Zoi is crafted over time to be unique. By the end of each day, they review their actions and propose alterations to their routines, which permits a game experience that changes all the time.
To assist with this world-building scenario, a player will be able to turn the feature on and off from the Options menu. The number of Smart Zois can also be adjusted, with a maximum of 300 being active at once. An additional option to minimize the volume of inner thoughts is available, which helps prevent UI clogging.

Zoi has an advanced AI envied by even the most powerful machines. Its minimum requirements run for 12GB of RAM and an Nvidia RTX 3060(8GB VRAM). Though still undergoing development, Smart Zoi is a huge milestone toward AI-enhanced realism in games. The ability of the creature to manifest subtle and changing NPC behavior could turn player-NPC interactions on their head in simulation games. For now, almost everything about it demands hardware and sometimes bugs the performance, but it cannot be denied that its capability to immerse players is quite great.
