Lando Norris paid a fitting tribute to the legendary Bruce McLaren with a stunning victory at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix. History came full circle as Norris recreated a moment from 65 years ago. Back in 1959, when Formula 1 first arrived in Florida for the United States Grand Prix, Bruce McLaren secured his maiden F1 win. Decades later, Norris, driving a McLaren, clinched victory on Florida soil once again—this time in Miami—delivering a symbolic homage to the team’s iconic founder.

Lando Norris' tribute to the great McLaren

The much-awaited win came after 110 races for Lando Norris, who is currently competing among the top brigade and can easily lay a claim at the world championship with many more races to go. Norris is 25 and has five F1 wins under his belt, including one this season, at the Australian Grand Prix.
McLaren have continued their dominant form into the 2025 season, with both Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri making strong statements from the outset.

Norris kicked off the season with a win at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park, clocking 1:42:06.304 over 57 laps. Piastri followed that with an impressive win at the Chinese Grand Prix, completing the 56-lap race in 1:30:55.026. Although Red Bull’s Max Verstappen triumphed at the Japanese Grand Prix, McLaren maintained their momentum, with Norris and Piastri finishing second and third respectively.
Piastri then elevated his performance to another level, claiming back-to-back wins at the Bahrain Grand Prix and Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, continuing his commanding run through the early stages of the season. Piastri won the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to become the first Australian to lead the F1 standings since 2010. Piastri will be aiming for a third consecutive victory as the 2025 Miami Grand Prix weekend gets underway on Friday.

Miami Grand Prix schedule

Friday: First practice session followed by qualifying for the Sprint race.
Saturday: Sprint race and qualifying for Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Sunday: The Miami Grand Prix — 57 laps around the 5.4-kilometer (3.4-mile) Miami International Autodrome.
McLaren currently lead the Constructors’ Standings with 188 points.
Mercedes sit second with 111 points, followed by Red Bull Racing in third with 89 points. Ferrari are in fourth place with 78 points.
