Being a native Spanish speaker, it was definitely a tough journey for Julio Rodriguez to learn English, especially when he aimed to make it big in baseball. But over the years, Rodriguez found his grip on English and recently talked about his journey to learning the language. Rodriguez also shared the trick he used to learn English faster.
Julio Rodriguez detailed his journey from Spanish to English
Julio Rodriguez comes from the Dominican Republic and moved to the US with a mission to make it big in the MLB. However, the first challenge that was in front of him after moving to a new country was learning the native language. Rodriguez’s native language was Spanish, and that’s why he struggled a lot to learn English.
But over the years, Julio Rodriguez got a better grip on English and used the cheat codes to learn the language faster and better. On Sunday, Rodriguez reflected on his journey from Spanish to English during an interview with the Bat Boys baseball team. Opening up about the challenges he faced, Rodriguez said:
"I took a little bit of classes but I feel like the biggest thing that helped me to learn and memorize things was learning how to make sentences. Let's say sandwiches, if I didn't know what sandwiches were or sum like that.”"I would make a sentence with the word that I'm trying to learn and then I would learn that word and it's just kinda started putting things together and that's how we're having this interview right now,” Rodriguez further added.
Moving forward in the interview, Julio Rodriguez recalled a hilarious incident when he tried to order pizza. Before placing the call, he wrote down the address he was supposed to say. However, when he held the phone to order the pizza, he got afraid and ended up cutting the call.
But Rodriguez overcame that fear soon. When one day he was in a hotel room, Julio Rodriguez got a strong craving for pizza and decided to break the sweat and order it. That was the moment he overcame his fear to speak in English and ended up enjoying the pizza he ordered himself.
