Chris Eubank Sr throws a wrench into Conor Benn's fight, wants son’s license cancelled

Days before the highly anticipated fight against Conor Benn, Chris Eubank Sr launches a blistering attack on his son Chris Eubank Jr, saying boxing authorities should revoke his license. The boxing legend has also distanced himself from the April 26 bout, which has been promoted as a “legacy fight” to continue a rivalry between the Eubank and Benn families from the 1990s.
Chris Eubank Sr has expressed serious safety concerns regarding the middleweight limit of 160 lbs with a 10lb rehydration clause. This restriction prevents either fighter from weighing more than 170lbs on fight day, which Chris Eubank Sr believes puts his son at particular risk.
"My son probably walks around at around 180lb, and he has to boil himself down to 160lb," Eubank Sr explained in an emotional interview. "People don't understand what it means for Junior to get down to 160lb, at his age. They don't understand the drying out."

Chris Eubank Sr has publicly demanded his son’s boxing license be revoked over the build-up to the Conor Benn fight. Speaking on The Sun’s No Glove Lost show, Chris Eubank Sr criticised his son’s recent behaviour, including an incident in which Chris Eubank Jr smashed an egg on the face of Conor Benn, and said it had tarnished the sport’s image. Such actions are not a legacy, they do not reflect who he is, and they only bring boxing into disrepute, he said, distancing himself from the spectacle.
The 58-year-old former champion, who is increasingly outspoken in his opposition to the fight on a number of grounds, including weight management and what he sees as disrespectful behaviour, has now turned his attention to the fighter's manager.
Fellow boxer Liam Smith has also revealed that there are rumours going around that Chris Eubank Jr is having weight-cut problems. According to reports, any weight agreement breach would cost either fighter a £1 million penalty.
It's also a public criticism of the deep family rift that the Eubanks have had since about 2019. Chris Eubank Jr said their relationship continued to deteriorate after the tragic death of his brother Sebastian in 2021. Chris Eubank Jr told Piers Morgan in March that mental health is a real thing. However, with that incident and the fact that we were not seeing eye to eye already, that broke a huge part of the relationship.
On the other hand, Conor Benn's father, Nigel, has been a constant presence in the fight build-up, there to support his son at press events. It further complicates one of Britain's most personal rivalries in boxing.

Despite his father's objections, Chris Eubank Jr appears determined to proceed with the bout, which will be broadcast live on DAZN pay-per-view. The fight begins at 9:00 PM EST at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with tickets still available through official vendors.
