David Pastrnak’s leadership tested as Boston Bruins face crushing losing streak

The Boston Bruins are near collapse; they are currently undergoing a six-game losing streak that has doomed their playoff chances. The defeat from the Los Angeles Kings, who crushed the already-downed Bruins by 7-2, has added to the woes of fans and players looking for answers. The few games left in the season cannot hope to save the Bruins' postseason dreams anymore.

It's been noted that the Bruins are struggling over the last few games, and so it is with their players. At this point, the Bostons are trailing the Montreal Canadiens by six points in the qualification for the final wild-card spot, with Boston having three games less in which to get these points. If Montreal makes the most of these, chances are that the gap will widen even more, darkening Boston's playoff chances.

After a nasty loss to the Kings, forward Casey Mittelstadt described the present state of affairs of the team in blunt four words: "I wish I knew." As such, per NHL.com, his answer showcased the uncertainty, as well as frustration, in the Bruins' locker room. Regaining that momentum is easier said than done, as he describes the need for calmness and confidence on the ice. However, speaking won't turn this thing around for Boston.

The Bruins now must win every game remaining on their schedule. The next opportunity, a March 26 match against the Anaheim Ducks, will be the most crucial in deciding whether there is any hope for Boston to enter the playoff race. There are only 20 points left on the table, and with a slip or two, things could become very difficult for Boston. Even if they do manage to win a few games, the team will not decide its own fate anymore.
