USC Trojans' standout guard JuJu Watkins sustained a season-ending knee injury during the first quarter of the NCAA Tournament second-round game against Mississippi State on March 24, 2025. The injury occurred as Watkins drove to the basket, resulting in a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee. According to a statement from the basketball program, Watkins "will undergo surgery and then begin rehabilitation shortly thereafter."

While driving to the basket on a fast break between two defenders, Watkins was fouled, causing her right knee to buckle as she planted her leg. She collapsed to the floor, immediately grasping her knee and remaining down for over a minute before being assisted off the court without putting weight on her injured leg.
Prior to her exit, Watkins had recorded three points, two assists, and one rebound. USC head coach Lindsay Gottlieb commented after the team's 96-59 victory, "This team rallied for her. Our fans had our back. I'm just really proud. ... It was a true team effort. I don't think I'll forget this night for a lot of reasons."
"I'd be lying if I told you that I wasn't rattled seeing JuJu on the court and crying," Gottlieb added.
