A 55-year-old daily wage laborer was arrested after his 30-year-old friend, whom he set on fire, succumbed to his burn injuries at the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. The Singanallur Police said Subramani, a native of Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district, attempted to murder M. Suresh, a daily wage labourer from Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district, on Saturday night. An investigation officer said Suresh and Subramani were friends and in the habit of consuming liquor together. "Some money went missing from Subramani's pocket recently and he suspected that Suresh took it when he questioned Suresh. An argument broke out and Suresh thrashed Subramani who was looking for an opportunity to take revenge," the officer said. On Saturday night, the officer said, Subramani saw Suresh sleeping on a pavement at Ramanujam Nagar near Singanallur Bus Stand. "He went to a nearby petrol bunk and bought diesel in an empty water container.
