Munawar Faruqui, a stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner has run into legal issues over his latest act, Hafta Vasooli. The satirical newsroom comedy, which is available on JioHotstar, is currently facing a complaint stating that it offends religious feelings and promotes profanity. A ban on the show has also been sought.
Advocate Amita Sachdeva filed the complaint, demanding a FIR under multiple provisions of the law, including BNS provisions 196, 299, and 353, as well as the IT Act. The lawsuit charges the performance with "insulting multiple religions," "violating cultural values," and "polluting young minds and society." On February 22, he released the update via his official X Twitter.
The counsel tagged Munawar Faruqui in the post and said, "I have officially filed a complaint against habitual offender Munawar Faruqui, for his show "Hafta Wasooli" streamed on @JioHotstar, requesting a FIR under BNS Sections 196, 299, and 353, along with the IT Act and other relevant Sections."
He described the other pertinent passages as advocating vulgarity, insulting several religions, violating cultural values, and damaging young brains and society.
Earlier, the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti objected against Hafta Vasooli. In a tweet on X, the group requested JioHotstar to take action, stating that the show uses offensive language and undermines moral standards.
