Jerry Seinfeld receives backlash for his ‘I don’t care about Palestine’ comment
Jerry Seinfeld, a well-known actor in American sitcoms, made a controversial statement about Palestine, which has made netizens fuming in the comment sections. He dismissed an anti-Israel activist, saying, “I don’t care about Palestine."
In the video posted by Subway DJ on Instagram, the activist is seen walking towards Seinfeld to ask for a selfie. The sitcom actor assertively says, “Sure!” However, instead of clicking pictures with the American comedian, the social media influence starts video recording. The Instagrammer posed with a peace sign and said, “Free Palestine.”
When the situation gets awkward as the actor is just posing without responding, Subway DJ questions, “Maybe?” In the turn of events, Seinfeld then goes on to say, “I don’t care about Palestine,” while shaking his head multiple times. Following the negative remark, the activist made a frowning face and said, “That’s sad.”
The video was taken during the celebration of SNL’s golden jubilee ‘SNL50: The Anniversary Special’ in New York City.
According to The Hill, Seinfeld has been an active supporter of Israel and its war against Hamas. When he delivered a speech at Duke University, many student protestors walked out of the venue, which he called ‘Dumb.’
The comment section of Subway DJ’s viral video is filled with disappointment for the actor’s actions, as he has been a good face of the industry for decades. One of the users commented, “What kind of artist says something like that? Empathy, humanization, and equal human rights should be in the root of what they do as profession. I am in awe when I hear that kind of language from artists.”
While another user expressed, “We don’t care about Seinfeld or anyone who supports genocide.” “I don’t care about Jerry anymore then. As someone who loved Seinfeld, this is super disappointing,” another user wrote.
