Woman dies in road accident near Krishnagiri

KRISHNAGIRI: A woman died and four others suffered injuries when their car collided with a goods van near Mathur in Krishnagiri district in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as A Umarani, 60, of Uthangarai. The injured have been identified as Umarani’s son A Gopinath, 45, daughter-in-law Jeevitha,38, and grandchildren Jaya, 12, and Hari Siva, 8.
The accident happened while they were returning home after visiting Lord Murugan temple in Palani. Gopinath was driving the car. As they approached SV Marriage Hall near Mathur around 5.40am, their car collided with a goods van coming from the opposite direction.
Umarani died on the spot. The injured were admitted to the Krishnagiri Government Medical College and Hospital.
The Mathur police registered a case against the driver of the goods van who fled the scene after the accident.
