AGRA: To make the investigation process easier and more efficient, Agra Police has implemented the 3D & Drone-Based Crime Scene Management System (3DD-CSMS), which will enable officers to overcome the constraints of conventional 2D photography and manual sketching of crime scenes.
According to a statement by Agra Police, the 3DD-CSMS, inaugurated in the district for the first time, will assist investigators in providing meticulous, comprehensive and interactive digital reconstruction of crime scenes. The new system will be implemented across 75 districts of UP soon.
In the 3DD-CSMS system, LiDAR (light detection and ranging), drones and virtual reality (VR) technologies will be utilised to create 3D digital reconstructions of crime scenes. It will also help in superior evidence preservation, digital crime scene documentation, expedited investigation process, proficient courtroom presentation and real-time surveillance of crime scenes.
"In the conventional system, our forensics teams occasionally overlook minute details of the crime scene and encounter difficulties in hand-drawn crime scene mapping. With 3DD-CSMS, investigators can perform 3D mapping of the crime scene while preserving evidence,” Agra Police stated.
Speaking to TOI about 3DD-CSMS, DCP Sonam Kumar, who spearheaded a team of technicians to devise this system said, “The 3DD-CSMS system will make crime scene analysis more scientific, transparent and effective. It will facilitate precise mapping and digital documentation of crime scenes, substantially supporting the judicial process. This is a new milestone for us in evidence-based policing. I have also submitted research papers to the Bureau of Police Research and Development, and they are also planning to adopt it as a model project.”
