Three cops suspended over hoisting of saffron flag at dargah in Prayagraj
Prayagraj: Three policemen, including the police outpost in-charge (Sikandra) and two constables, were placed under suspension on Tuesday for negligence in duty in connection with saffron flag being hoisted at a dargah in Sikandra area on Sunday.
The action was taken based on the findings of an inquiry report.
Earlier on Monday, the Baharia police had arrested a man identified as Manendra Pratap, who allegedly climbed atop the dargah on Sunday and raised slogans on occasion of Ram Navami.
The action came after a video of the incident showed three men associated with an organisation, Maharaja Suheldev Samman Suraksha Manch, arriving at the area on bikes, climbing atop the dargah and waving saffron flags while raising slogans.
Meanwhile, members of the Samajwadi Party (SP) on Tuesday sought invocation of National Security Act (NSA) against those involved in act.
In a memorandum handed over to district authorities and addressed to the governor, the SP delegation demanded senior police and district authorities to identify all the troublemakers and invoke the NSA against them, claiming that they had made attempts to disturb the communal amity.
