'Muslim families helped devotees during Maha Kumbh stampede': Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman over namaz ban on roads, rooftops in Sambhal
NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party MP Ramjilal Suman expressed his concerns on Friday regarding the Sambhal administration's decision to deny permission for offering namaz on the road.

Highlighting the long-standing efforts to create discord between Hindu and Muslim communities, Suman emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony and respecting religious sentiments.
"We come from 'Ganga-Jamuni' traditions," Suman stated, referencing the historical coexistence of diverse cultures in the region.
He recalled the Maha Kumbh incident, where Muslim families played a crucial role in aiding devotees during a stampede, as a testament to the spirit of unity and mutual support.
Suman urged the community to avoid actions that could disrespect religious beliefs, reinforcing the need for understanding and cooperation among different faiths.
"For a long time, there has been an effort to create distress between Hindu and Muslims. We come from 'Ganga-Jamuni' traditions. During Maha Kumbh, when the stampede happened, it was Muslim families who took the devotees in and took care of them. We should not do anything to disrespect the religious sentiments of anyone, " MP Ramjilal Suman added.
'No namaz on roads and rooftops': Sambhal administration
The Alvida Juma and Eidgah prayers shall be conducted exclusively within designated prayer spaces, with restrictions on street-level and rooftop gatherings. The established government regulations concerning loudspeaker usage remain mandatory.
A peace committee convened on Wednesday at Sadar Kotwali, led by additional SP Shrish Chandra, SDM Dr Vandana Mishra, and Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary. The committee urged for peaceful and harmonious festival celebrations. These directives have been extended to additional districts across UP.
ASP Shrish Chandra said, "A peace committee meeting was held in Kotwali Sambhal with people from all religions and communities. It was clearly communicated and ensured that prayers will be conducted inside mosques and Eidgah only, and not on the streets outside. Issues related to electricity and water were also addressed and will be resolved in time. Compliance with the rules was also emphasised. The zonal sector arrangement remains in place as before, and an adequate police force will be deployed. It will be ensured that prayers are not conducted on rooftops."
