Pilibhit Municipal Council secures Rs 6 crore for first digital library, park
Pilibhit: The state govt has approved over Rs 6 crore for the Pilibhit Municipal Council under the Chief Minister Vaishwik Nagarodaya Yojana. The funds will be used to construct the district's first public digital library, a park with a gym, a guest house for the council, and a road in the city. The first installment, amounting to 25% of the approved funds, has been disbursed, said council chairwoman Astha Agarwal.
The digital library, a first for Pilibhit, is expected to be a landmark initiative. "The library will be equipped with 50 computers with the latest software to help students who cannot afford their own due to financial constraints," said Agarwal. The library will also house quality course books from secondary to postgraduate levels, with a nominal subscription fee for students from economically weaker backgrounds. The project has been allocated Rs 3.6 crore.
A public park with a gym will be developed in Awas Vikas Colony at a cost of Rs 54 lakh, while Rs 1 crore will be spent on constructing a road with a drainage system in the city.
The municipal guest house, intended for senior administrative officials and public representatives, will be built on the old Meston Library campus with an outlay of Rs 1.1 crore. The state govt is also considering a Rs 10.5 crore proposal for a community-cum-banquet hall to provide an affordable venue for weddings and other events for the financially weaker sections, Agarwal said.
