FIR against Punjab MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli over highway blockade on Bio-CNG plant

Jalandhar Rural police have filed an FIR against Adampur Congress MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli and numerous others for obstructing the Jalandhar-Pathankot national highway on April 23. The protest was against a bio-CNG plant at Bhogpur sugar mill intended to process solid waste from the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. The FIR includes charges under the National Highway Act, potentially leading to imprisonment.

JALANDHAR: Jalandhar Rural police registered FIR against Adampur Congress MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli and others, including 21 identified and 100-150 unidentified, for blocking Jalandhar Pathankot national highway on April 23 to protest against bio-CNG plant at Bhogpur sugar mill to process the solid waste from Jalandhar Municipal Corporation.
Apart from six provisionos of BNS and a provision of Noise Poluution Rules, the FIR against the MLA and others also has section 8B of the National HIghway Act, whih provides imprisomment upto five years. The FIR was registered in the night of April 23 but it remained under wraps and the MLA also learnt about it on Tuesday morning only.
The issue of bio-CNG plant at Bhogpur sugar mill has been brewing for around a year. In the blockade on April 23, Bhogpur town residents, shopkeepers, and farm groups had partiipated. In August last year also, the town residents blocked the NH.
Though meetings between the officials and the town representatives were held in the past, the issue remained unresolved.
