YAMUNANAGAR: In a continued crackdown on illegal mining and overload transportation of mined minerals, the Yamunanagar district administration seized five vehicles involved in unauthorized mining activities, while 52 vehicles were fined with a total penalty amounting to Rs 26.21 lakh, said deputy commissioner Parth Gupta on Tuesday.
The operation was conducted under the directives of the director general of the Department of Mines and Geology, K M Pandurang.
Yamunanagar DC Parth Gupta stated that 16 checkpoints had been set up across the district, where teams from the mining department, police and other relevant authorities conducted continuous inspections. Sub-divisional officers from the respective divisions were also actively engaged in the checking process to ensure strict enforcement against illegal mining and transportation.
DC Gupta said that on Tuesday, the district administration conducted a large-scale vehicle inspection at various checkpoints. District mining officer Vinay Sharma reported that 146 vehicles were checked in the Jagadhri sub-division, while 631 vehicles were inspected in the Chhachhrauli sub-division. Similarly, 559 vehicles were checked in the Radaur sub-division, leading to the seizure of vehicles and fines imposed for illegal mining activities. He added that in the Vyaspur (Bilaspur) sub-division, 95 vehicles were inspected.
Earlier, DC Yamunanagar had ordered to set-up checking points at 16 points in the district to curb illegal mining as residents and activists have been alleging rampant sand mining in Yamuna river.
