Mohali: In observance of Mahavir Jayanti on April 10, the district administration has directed the closure of all meat and egg shops, street vendors, and slaughterhouses for the day.
The directive was issued by district magistrate Komal Mittal under the powers conferred under Section 163 of the BNSS.
Emphasising the significance of the day for the Jain community and others who hold non-violence as a core value, Mittal said that animal slaughter on this religious occasion could hurt public sentiments and religious beliefs. The ban is aimed at maintaining communal harmony and honouring the sanctity of the festival.
The order applies to all shops, hotels, and roadside vendors dealing in meat and eggs across the Mohali district. Local authorities have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of the order to uphold peace and respect during the celebrations.
