Thai Sikhs meet PM Modi, present hand-painted artwork
Amritsar: The Thai Sikh community has expressed optimism that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Thailand will encourage Thai businessmen to explore investment opportunities in India while enhancing tourism exchanges between the two nations. The remarks came as a delegation of Thai Sikhs met with PM Modi on Thursday during his two-day visit to attend the sixth BIMSTEC Summit.
Pinderpal Singh, a prominent businessman and president of the Guru Singh Sabha Association, Thailand, who led the delegation, informed that they presented the Prime Minister with a hand-painted artwork by a Thai artist, depicting Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), as a gesture of goodwill.
While PM Modi's packed schedule limited the opportunity for in-depth discussions, Singh said that the visit itself instilled confidence and reinforced optimism for stronger bilateral ties, particularly in the tourism sector.
Stating that the Thai Sikh community views the visit as a catalyst for deepening economic and cultural connections, with hopes that it will pave the way for increased trade and travel between India and Thailand, he said that enhancing flight connectivity between India and Thailand could significantly boost tourist inflows to both nations. He said that while Indian tourists already visit Thailand in substantial numbers, improved air links would also encourage more Thais to explore India and strengthen a mutual surge in tourism.
Similarly, Singh opined that Prime Minister Modi's visit is set to be a significant advantage for the Thai business community and could encourage their interest in investing in India and strengthening economic collaboration between the two countries.
