AMBALA: Haryana's energy, transport, and labour minister, Anil Vij said that the work has commenced to deepen the Tangri river by six feet in Ambala Cantonment, bringing significant relief to thousands of nearby residents. The initiative aims to prevent flooding during the monsoon and enhance water drainage.
Minister Vij stated that sand excavated from the Tangri river will be repurposed for the Ambala ring road project under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Simultaneously, the Tangri embankment is being strengthened and elevated up to Jagadhri road at a cost of Rs 2.67 crore. These measures will ensure a smooth flow of water and mitigate the risk of overflow.
Vij also highlighted that the narrow sections of the Tangri river in Ambala Cantonment will be widened to facilitate uninterrupted water flow. A proposal for this has been sent to the government for approval, and work is expected to begin soon.
An MoU has been signed between the irrigation department, NHAI, and the Ambala Sadar Municipal Council to oversee the execution of these improvements. Minister Vij assured that the deepening of the riverbed will be completed before the onset of the monsoon, offering crucial protection to dozens of nearby colonies.
The minister further stated that the project to reinforce and elevate the Tangri River embankment towards Rampur-Sarsehri is progressing swiftly. The Rs 2.67 crore project, which began in February, is being expedited to ensure timely completion before heavy rains.
In another major infrastructure upgrade, Vij announced that the Tangri Dam road will soon be connected to GT Road via Ghasitpur railway crossing. This will significantly improve accessibility for residents of Shahpur, Machhaunda, Ghasitpur, and Sector 32-34, as well as those traveling to the new grain market on GT Road.
Additionally, the widening of Tangri dam road is currently in progress. The road is being expanded by six feet, enhancing convenience and safety for commuters.
Minister Vij emphasized that these improvements mark a transformative step towards flood prevention and better connectivity in the region, ensuring a safer and more efficient infrastructure for all.
