MADURAI: Tamil Nadu governor R N Ravi accused minister and former DMK deputy general secretary K Ponmudy of insulting women and devotees of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.
Referring to the recent controversial remarks made by Ponmudy and without naming him, the governor said: “This kind of rhetoric has no place in a land that reveres its spiritual traditions and respects its women.”
The governor was speaking at a felicitation ceremony for winners of Kamban 2025, a state-level Tamil speech competition, at Thiagarajar College in Madurai.
He said Ponmudy was part of an “ecosystem” that had been trying to reshape Tamil Nadu’s cultural landscape over the last seven to eight decades -- an effort he alleged aimed at eroding traditional Tamil values.
