Speeding train hits tractor stuck on track at unmanned level crossing in TN
VILLUPURAM: An express train collided with a tractor that was stuck on the track at an unmanned level crossing near Tiruvanainallur in Villupuram district on Sunday.
The tractor driver, who was in an inebriated condition, escaped as he jumped off the tractor a few seconds before the express train hit it. The tractor with the trailer was thrown 50 feet away due to the impact.
The loco pilot acted swiftly and stopped the train, avoiding a major catastrophe. No one was injured in the accident.
The railway police reached the spot and made preliminary inquiries. Investigations revealed that the tractor driver, identified as S Sakthi, 37, was under the influence of alcohol.
The police booked him under sections 145 (a) (drunkenness or nuisance —If any person in any railway carriage or upon any part of a railway is in a state of intoxication), 147 (1) (trespass and refusal to desist from trespass) 153 (b) (endangering the safety of persons travelling by railway by wilful act or omission) and 174 (obstructing running of train, etc. by keeping without authority any rolling stock on the railway) of the Railways Act, 1989 and arrested him.
