Coimbatore: A police head constable sustained a fracture on his right knee after a speeding motorcycle knocked him down during a vehicle check on the Alagesan Road in Coimbatore on Wednesday night.
The injured cop has been identified as Manimaran, 48, from Madurai district who is attached to the Saibaba Colony police station here. He is staying at Thadagam with his family.
Sources said a team from the Saibaba Colony police station was conducting vehicle checks on the Alagesan Road around 10.30pm on Wednesday. Manimaran asked a rider to stop his two-wheeler. But the biker did not stop the two-wheeler and knocked down the head constable. Manimaran sustained a fracture on his right knee. The biker rode away.
Other cops rushed Manimaran to a private hospital in Saibaba Colony.
The police have formed a special team led by inspector Kasipandian to nab the biker and started collecting CCTV footage from the Alagesan Road and surrounding areas to identify the biker.
The traffic investigation wing (West) of the city police registered a case.
