Coimbatore: The Selvapuram police in Coimbatore city arrested a man on Saturday for illegal possession of 720 painkiller pills to sell them to youngsters. The arrested man has been identified as S Abdul Kalam, 27, of Kallamedu near Selvapuram.
Acting on a tip-off about illegal sale of pills, Selvapuram police inspector Alaguraj and his team conducted searches and arrested Abdul Kalam. They seized 720 pills from him.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Abdul Kalam procured the pills from some sellers in Bengaluru without prescriptions. He sold one pill for Rs 300 in Coimbatore. The buyers used the pills by mixing them with distilled water and injecting them into their veins, which gave them a high for a few hours.
He was remanded in judicial custody.
