Two-month old baby of Karnataka couple dies after allegedly choking on breast milk

KOCHI: A two-month-old baby of a migrant couple from Karnataka, presently living at Thrikkakara, died in the early hours of Friday. Police suspect that the baby may have choked on breast milk.
Thrikkakara police registered a case for unnatural death and have started an investigation into the death. Police have completed the inquest proceedings and moved the body to Kalamassery Medical College for postmortem.
Varghese Plassery, the local ward member, said that the couple used to stay at a labour camp near Edapally and moved to Journalist Nagar in Kennedy Mukku, Thrikkakara, during the Ramzan period. Their relatives live nearby.
As per the police, the mother fed the baby on Thursday night and went to sleep. The infant was found unconscious in the morning. The parents rushed the baby to a hospital, but her life could not be saved.
Police said that the exact cause of the death can be confirmed only after the postmortem. The body would be handed over to the relatives after the autopsy on Saturday, said police.
