NEW DELHI: In a message from inside the jail, which was tweeted from his personal handle,
Aam Aadmi Party leader
Manish Sisodia on Saturday said his spirit can't be broken by incarcerating him. "Sir, you can trouble me by putting me in jail but can't break my spirit. The British also gave trouble to the freedom fighters but their spirit did not break," the tweet, written in Hindi, read.
The tweet evoked a strong reaction from Bharatiya Janata Party, which advised Sisodia of desisting from comparing himself with freedom fighters.
"Manish Sisodia and his anarchist companions cannot even imagine the inhumanity with which the British rulers, their police and courts used to treat the freedom fighters," Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said. "Manish Babu, do your politics but don't compare yourself to freedom fighters," he added.
Aam Aadmi Party also alleged that BJP had turned into a "washing machine" and the charges against opposition leaders accused in any case would be dropped if they joined the saffron party.
Addressing a press conference, senior AAP leader Raghav Chadha accused BJP of wanting to turn India into an "opposition-less" country. "BJP wants to make India an autocracy, perhaps even a one party-one leader state," Chadha said, alleging that the saffron party had been misusing central probe agencies.
Chadha claimed several politicians who had numerous alleged corruption charges against them were given a clean chit after joining BJP. The Rajya Sabha member alleged that the son of a BJP MLA in Karnataka was caught with "unaccounted and illegal wealth" yet he was not arrested.
Timarpur MLA Dilip Pandey called BJP a "corrupt politician purifier party".
Delhi BJP general secretary Harsh Malhotra and spokesperson Harish Khurana alleged that "Sisodia is involved in corruption in the same way as Satyendar Jain is involved in black money manipulation".
