NEW DELHI: Enough is enough. Deepak Kumar, an employee of LIC, believes it's imperative to make Indian citizens cognisant of the environment. He commenced his All India cycle yatra, phase-1, advocating environmental conservation and human welfare.
The 49-year-old bachelor Deepak embarked on his journey from Patna on February 15, with
Jammu and Kashmir as his final destination. Deepak utilised 25 days of privileged leave (PL) from the office for the Yatra. He states, "2024 was the hottest year ever recorded in India, according to the
India Meteorological Department (IMD), we must awaken from slumber before it's too late. We now purchase water, and a day might come when there's no drinking water available.

I endeavour to enlighten people in every state I traverse about planting trees for our future". Kumar reached Delhi via Varanasi, Prayagraj and Lucknow, departing from Kumbh on February 24. Deepak traversed approximately 70 km daily, lodging in LIC guest houses, and where unavailable, seeking accommodation in temples or modest hotels.
"I have 11 years remaining in my service, and shall dedicate myself entirely to environmental awareness. Upon reaching Kashmir, I shall donate my bicycle to underprivileged individuals, return by train, and focus on my phase-2 yatra towards West Bengal," Deepak articulates, anticipating his arrival in Jammu & Kashmir on March 14.
