Ghaziabad family strip, molest woman over dowry; 6 held

PILIBHIT: Six members of a Ghaziabad-based family were booked by Pilibhit police on Sunday for allegedly stripping, molesting and torturing a 27-year-old woman over dowry.
The woman from Pilibhit stated in her police complaint that despite giving a huge dowry during her marriage to a diamond trader in Ghaziabad on July 7, 2022, her husband and her in-laws demanded "Rs 10 lakh along with a luxury car and things became unbearable after she gave birth to a girl child last year".

SHO Pawan Pandey said on Sunday, "Six individuals, including the woman's diamond trader husband, were booked under BNS sections 85 (subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or his relatives), 74 (assault or criminal force against a woman to outrage her modesty), 76 (criminal force against a woman with the intent to disrobe her), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act."
The woman claimed her father had already given Rs 50 lakh, among other items, at the time of her wedding. "My husband routinely thrashes me after getting drunk following provocation by his kin. He even forced me into unnatural sexual relations. I was regularly threatened by them," she said in her complaint.
She added: "Things became worse after the birth of our daughter on Feb 2, 2024. My in-laws demanded an additional Rs 10 lakh but my father could offer just Rs 3 lakh. They started behaving more cruelly with me... On April 26 of last year, I was stripped and molested. I couldn't bear it any longer and told everything to my brother, who brought me back to my parents' place."
