New compact power substation in Manglapuri to boost electricity supply
New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated a 66/11KV GIS grid power substation in Manglapuri and asserted that Delhi govt was committed to ensuring a 24x7 uninterrupted electricity supply in the city. The state-of-the-art substation will serve a population of 10 lakh, she said. Delhi Power minister Ashish Sood also accompanied her at the inauguration of the substation."Delhi has a scarcity of land, and this substation located in a multi-storey building suits the circumstances in the city. It's a big achievement of Delhi govt," the chief minister said.Sood said the gas-based grid was a useful and significant facility in view of safety as well as scarcity of land. It will solve the problems of tripping of line and voltage fluctuations, he added.
This grid substation, which can be remotely accessed through a supervisory control and data acquisition command centre, is an important milestone in establishing Delhi as a power hub, the minister said. Strategically located in one of the capital's fastest-developing zones — encompassing Palam, Dwarka, Manglapuri and surrounding areas — the grid will significantly enhance the reliability, quality and resilience of power supply for over 1,00,000 residents, while also catering to critical infrastructure such as a DTC bus depot and cooperative group housing societies.Constructed in just 1.5 years, the Palam Village grid stands out for its compact and efficient design. Developed on a footprint of only 1,170 square metres, it is among the most space-efficient extra high voltage substations in the National Capital Region, said a BSES official. With a capacity of 63 MVA, the new substation will not only meet the existing demand but also accommodate future growth in this fast-evolving corridor. The grid will benefit key residential and institutional areas such as Palam Village and Colony, Mahavir Enclave, Dwarka (sectors 1, 6, and 7), Raj Nagar, Bengali Colony, Puran Nagar, Nasirpur and Sadh Nagar.Earlier, Gupta participated in a cleanliness drive at Hanuman Mandir Complex, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, in the presence of NDMC chairperson Keshav Chandra and vice-chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal.Gupta said that clean Delhi was the right of every Delhiite. "Delhi govt has launched a 20-day cleanliness campaign in which employees and officers from different agencies are cleaning the roads across the city."
