LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar on Tuesday said that comprehensive civil defence mock drills will be conducted across all districts of the state on May 7, following directions received from the Government of India.
Addressing the media, DGP Kumar said that the Centre has identified 19 districts for the drill — one placed in Category A, two in Category C, and the rest in Category D. “However, keeping in view the local sensitivities and preparedness levels, the state government has decided to conduct these mock drills in all districts,” he said.
The exercise will involve coordinated participation from multiple agencies including the police administration, fire services, and disaster response forces. The drills aim to assess and enhance emergency response capabilities in the event of disasters or other crisis situations.

“These mock drills will help ensure better coordination and readiness among all response agencies,” the DGP added.
Abhay Prasad, Director General of the Civil Defence Department, confirmed that instructions have been received from the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct the drill. “Preparations are already underway. The goal is to equip civilians with the knowledge and readiness needed in case of any future conflict,” he said. Currently, the Civil Defence Department has offices in 15 districts of the state, covering a total of 26 districts through its operational network.
These offices will play a key role in coordinating the mock drills and ensuring public participation.
As part of the initiative, authorities will assess emergency medical infrastructure, response times, and coordination between various agencies in the event of mass casualties or large-scale evacuations.
The drill will also serve as a refresher in civil defence protocols and aims to foster greater public awareness and resilience in times of national crisis, a senior home official added.
