Public space shrinks on Guru Ravidas Marg in Govindpuri as authorities turn a blind eye to enroachments

Encroachments—such as illegal parking and roadside hawkers—remain a persistent issue on Guru Ravidas Marg in Govindpuri.


Residents have repeatedly voiced concerns about these obstructions, pointing to the frequent occupation of footpaths and roads by hawkers and shopkeepers.

The recent demolition of the 40-year-old Govindpuri fish market in Kalkaji by MCD and PWD, which displaced hundreds of fish and meat vendors, has raised questions about selective enforcement.

Meanwhile, little action has been taken to address the deteriorating conditions around public toilets, despite ongoing complaints.

The increasing number of vegetable stalls, tarpaulin-covered shops, and furniture vendors along the road has further constricted the already congested street.


It has also worsened the traffic flow.
