Panaji: The state designated agency of the electricity department has converted 18 govt high schools, five Kendriya Vidyalayas, and two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas into model energy-efficient schools.
The agency achieved this by replacing conventional bulbs, tube lights, and fans with LED bulbs, tube lights, and energy-efficient 50W fans, said superintending engineer and nodal officer for the agency, Mayur Hede.
Focusing on energy efficiency and conservation, the agency has also established 438 energy clubs in govt schools, aided schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, and Jawahar Navodaya schools. These clubs encourage children to participate in the energy efficiency movement to save and conserve energy.
The agency also distributed 600 induction cooktops to anganwadis on Friday.
Additionally, the agency replaced conventional bulbs, tube lights, and fans with LED bulbs, tube lights, and Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDC) fans to create a model energy-efficient village in Assaolda village in Quepem taluka.
In the past, the agency distributed three 9W LED bulbs to 8 lakh domestic consumers. Under the Street light National Programme, the agency replaced existing conventional street light fixtures with 1.7 lakh LED fixtures. All street lights installed henceforth have been LED street lights.
“A total of 18 professionals have been empanelled with the agency as energy auditors/third-party assessors to certify projects to be Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) compliant,�?Hede said, adding that the agency has also notified the mandatory use of energy-efficient appliances, i.e., BLDC fans, LED lights, and five-star rated air conditioners for all new govt buildings and upcoming industries.
In recognition of activities undertaken to promote energy conservation and efficiency, Goa was awarded the second prize at the national level in the institutional category for the State Energy Efficiency Performance Award (Category 3) for the last two consecutive years.
State govt designated the electricity department as the state agency to coordinate, regulate, and enforce the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 in Goa.
