Guwahati: The stage is set for the grand inauguration of Advantage Assam 2.0 by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning. Leading industrialists from the country and abroad have begun arriving in Guwahati since Monday, while the city has been elaborately adorned ahead of the mega investment and infrastructure summit where MoUs worth Rs 1.22 lakh crore will be signed over two days.
The inaugural session commences at 10:30 am on Tuesday, exclusively for invitees.
Industrialist Sajjan Jindal of JSW and Toshiaki Nishikawa from Japan, chairman and CEO of ASEAN Group Co. Ltd are among the dignitaries who already arrived in the city, while sources said Gautam Adani is scheduled to arrive late on Monday. Mukesh Ambani of Reliance and N Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons, are the prominent industrialists who will attend the summit and are expected to arrive by Tuesday morning.
Nishikawa, alongside a Japanese delegation, met Gauhati University VC Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta on the university campus on Monday. Discussions were held to explore academic collaboration between GU and various Japanese business organisations. The Japanese team was apprised by GU authorities about the academic and infrastructural capacity of the leading university of the northeast. Deliberations focused on imparting training to GU students in Japanese language and behavioural aspects to prepare work-ready professionals for Japanese companies.
Later in the evening on Monday, Modi visited the main venue of Advantage Assam 2.0 at Khanapara in Guwahati.
"The first section showcases ‘Proud of Assam' featuring Kaziranga, muga silk, skill university, and developing infrastructure. The subsequent block, ‘Future of Assam', displays semiconductor, Reliance, Guwahati Airport, among others," Sarma said.
He added that three additional blocks would showcase products from companies, institutions and self-help groups.
Significant sessions on Tuesday will be addressed by DoNER minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Vikshit Assam, while union minister for railways Ashwini Vaishnav will speak at another crucial session on semiconductor.
The session ‘Act East' will be attended by ambassadors with Jaishankar as the keynote speaker. Concurrently, an important session on India-Bhutan trading relations is scheduled for Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the diplomats arrived in two contingents — one with foreign affairs minister S Jaishankar on Sunday evening, while diplomats from partner countries including Bhutan, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Japan are scheduled to arrive separately by Monday.
