NEW DELHI: Following the inauguration of the Kampur bridge, Assam chief minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma shared a personal childhood memory connected to the location.
The chief minister posted on X about his experience riding an elephant on the newly rebuilt Kopili river bridge at Kampur. He mentioned his past role as a child actor in "Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati," where he had performed a similar scene on the same bridge many years ago.
Describing the experience as "Reel to Real," CM Sarma shared on X: "Perhaps some of you may not know that many decades ago, I played the role of a child in a film. In one scene of that film, I was riding an elephant on a bridge. Today, the same bridge was rebuilt and dedicated to the public and I also rode an elephant again. This is called, Reel to Real."
In another X post, he stated: "Kampur Kapili Bridge brings a wave of nostalgia as it is in this very location, I rode an elephant years back for the film 'Kokadeuta Nati aur Hati'. Today as I dedicated the new bridge here, a long demand of the people, I couldn't help but recreate the cult scene."
On Sunday, the chief minister inaugurated the new Kampur Railway Overbridge in Nagaon district. The Rs 63 crore project replaced an existing level crossing gate, enhancing connectivity for local commuters.
The Assam government has also transformed the historic Kapili River Bridge at Kampur, constructed in 1958-59, into a pedestrian walkway. The chief minister unveiled this renovated structure, addressing a longstanding public request, as stated by the Government of Assam.
At the ceremony, CM Sarma reminisced about his appearance in the Assamese film Kokadeuta Nati Aru Hati, where he had performed an elephant-riding scene at the same location years earlier.
