Agartala: A local court of Tripura's Unakoti district on Sunday remanded a 30-year-old tea labourer in police custody for three days on charges of killing his mother and inflicting injury on her paramour in the Sarojini gram panchayat of Kailashahar.
Police arrested accused Malen Chasha on Saturday, hours after the incident and interrogated him.
Chasha had lost his father 10 years ago and shortly thereafter his mother Yashoda Chasha had developed a live-in relationship with a man named Subal Bauri from the village, the police said. The duo were living with Malen and his wife but had a habit of frequent quarrels that Malen could not tolerate.
On Saturday, when the duo engaged in a quarrel over a trivial issue, Malen reacted sharply. According to the police, Malen picked up a club and first hit his mother hard on the head and then delivered the second blow to his mother's paramour, Bauri.
Neighbours took both of them to Kailashahar hospital where Yashoda was declared brought dead while Bauri was admitted in critical condition. Later, police arrested Malen and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
Malen claimed that he had grown fed up with the constant quarrels between his mother and her paramour and he struck both of them in a fit of anger, but had no intention of killing either of them.
