Bailhongal bandh observed for ignoring KCDA in budget
Belagavi: The Bailhongal town observed a bandh on Tuesday, condemning the govt's negligence in making budgetary allocations to the Kittur Channamma Development Authority (KCDA) to develop the 30 locations related to Rani Channamma. The Veerarani Kittur Channamma Memorial Committee, led by Murigeppa Gundlur, had given a call for bandh. Hundreds of activists took out a protest rally in the town and submitted a memorandum to the govt through the assistant commissioner. In the memorandum, activists condemned the govt for not sanctioning funds to the KCDA and demanded to sanction of Rs 200 crore immediately to undertake various development projects in Bailhongal and Kittur towns.
Other key demands of the agitators--the central govt to declare Channamma's memorial in Bailhongal as a national monument, naming Belagavi Airport after Rani Channamma, establishing an international girls' Sainik School in Bailhongal, sanctioning Rs 100 crore for the development of a Rock Garden showcasing Channamma's historical life, acquiring and preserving the site at Channamma's birthplace in Kakati, and declaring Channamma's Remembrance Day on Feb 2. The bandh received a good response.
