Hyderabad: Telangana has made remarkable strides in implementing best practices across various sectors, according to NITI Aayog's tracker. With 196 best practices to its name, the state stands out for its focus on health and agriculture, although it lags behind Andhra Pradesh, which has approximately 217 best practices.
While Telangana excels in several domains, it faces challenges in sectors like energy, tourism, municipal administration, and urbanisation.
38 initiatives in health
Out of the 7,503 best practices compiled across all states and union territories, Telangana has contributed 196. These practices span key areas such as agriculture, education, health and nutrition, MSMEs, skilling, livelihoods, water, tourism, and urbanisation. Notably, Telangana has implemented 27 best practices in agriculture and 28 in education.
The highest concentration of best practices is found in the health sector, with 38 initiatives. The state has also introduced 29 best practices in water management and 28 in skilling and livelihoods.
However, Telangana's performance is weaker in energy (with just eight practices), tourism (one practice), urbanisation (six practices), and manufacturing (one practice). NITI Aayog also considers the effective implementation of central schemes when evaluating these best practices, adding further depth to the analysis. One standout initiative is Telangana's basti dawakhans, which follows Delhi's model to provide quality healthcare to underserved areas. Additionally, the state has launched a GIS-based project to improve urban property tax collection, aiming to identify unassessed or under-assessed properties to increase local revenue.
Fostering library usage
In education, initiatives like Chintalbori school's (Adilabad) Saturday programmes promote reading, subject knowledge through quizzes, and cultural activities, helping students build essential skills while fostering library use.
Another noteworthy project involves the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, which has successfully promoted solar installations in rural schools, addressing power shortages and improving basic amenities.
Lastly, women entrepreneurs in Siddipet, who sell value-added mutton products, have also been recognised for their contribution to the economy.
While Telangana has set a strong example with numerous best practices, experts said there remains room for growth, particularly in sectors such as energy, tourism, and urbanisation.
