Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation's (IMC) removal team conducted an operation in Rajwada and surrounding areas on Thursday, seizing a significant amount of items that the traders had kept by encroaching upon footpaths and roads.
"The IMC team conducted operations around Rajwada Garden, Khajuri Bazaar, MG Road, Pipli Bazaar, Chor Bazaar, Nihalpura, and nearby areas. The action was taken against both footpath vendors and shopkeepers who displayed goods outside their shops," additional commissioner in-charge Lata Agarwal said, adding that it was a routine action.
Following an incident on Wednesday where the IMC team allegedly removed mannequins from a shop, leading to a confrontation with merchants, the traders submitted new evidence. They presented CCTV footage of the incident to Agarwal, showing the removal of mannequins from the shop.
Akshay Jain, President of the Indore Retail Garments Traders Association, revealed that the footage also showed an individual who was not an IMC employee accompanying the team. The traders demanded action against such unauthorized persons.
