Deoli-Uniyara violence: HC asks IO of case to appear on March 21
Jaipur: Hearing a petition seeking a CBI inquiry after action was taken against villagers in the Samravata case related to the violence during last year's bypoll for Deoli-Uniyara assembly seat, Rajasthan High Court Friday summoned the investigating officer of the case along with the case diary on March 21.
A single bench of Justice VK Bharwani asked the investigating officer to explain during appearance why investigation is pending against other accused in this case. The HC was hearing the petition filed by 21 villagers, including Dikkhush Meena, seeking a CBI inquiry after violence broke out and action was taken against the villagers. Clashes were witnessed after independent candidate Naresh Meena allegedly slapped an SDM during the bypoll held on Nov 13, 2024.
During the hearing, Justice Bharwani was told by the state counsel that the charge-sheet was already presented against some of the accused and that investigation against the rest is pending.
Rajesh Goswami, counsel for the petitioners, told the HC that four FIRs were registered in this case and, in such a situation, an impartial probe seems impossible. "The villagers boycotted voting and were protesting peacefully. During this time, local administrative officers and police pressurised them and threatened them. They also tortured the innocent villagers. Instead of acting against the administration people, police got a false FIR registered against the villagers," said Goswami.
