Gas pipeline leaks while Bisalpur project work on
Jaipur: Panic spread among commuters near 9 Dukan area on Kalwar Road Thursday when a JCB machine accidentally damaged a piped natural gas (PNG) pipeline during excavation work for the Bisalpur water supply pipeline. As soon as the gas began escaping, labourers shouted in alarm. Traffic on both sides of the main road was halted as company employees rushed to contain the situation. Within about 30 minutes, the pipeline was repaired.
Deputy controller of civil defence Amit Sharma said excavation was underway for installation of the Bisalpur pipeline when the JCB operator inadvertently struck a pipeline owned by Torrent Gas Company around 12:30pm. As gas started leaking, workers on site alerted police. Senior police officers, including DCP (west) Amit Kumar, arrived at the scene.
Officers informed the gas company, and precautionary measures were implemented. The road was cleared, and traffic movement was suspended to prevent any potential hazards.
The administration also issued repeated warnings to residents, advising them to avoid lighting flames or engaging in any activity that could ignite the gas.
Emergency repair teams from Torrent Gas Company arrived and began working to seal the leak. Within half an hour, the pipeline was secured. Traffic was restored after ensuring there was no danger.
"The leakage was stopped in about 30 minutes, but it took nearly two hours to replace the affected section of the pipe. Traffic was gradually allowed to resume. Some roadside dhabas were instructed not to operate during the repairs," said Sharma.
