Jaipur: Special operations group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police Monday said it had arrested two persons, one of them a project manager of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), for allegedly providing the 2018 Jail Warder Recruitment Exam paper to an organised paper leak gang.
ADG (SOG) VK Singh said at a press conference that Karan Kumar (36), a native of Bihar, and Jagjit Singh (37), a native of Jharkhand currently residing in Noida and employed with TCS, had been arrested. While Karan was arrested on Sunday, Jagjit was arrested Monday.
Singh stated that Jagjit Singh, a project manager at TCS, was involved in facilitating the leak of papers for the exam which was conducted by TCS on behalf of Sardar Patel University in Jodhpur. He mentioned that Karan and Jagjit were college friends.
The investigation took a turn after the SOG arrested Sandeep Kandiyan, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana, who admitted that he met with Karan regarding the provision of an answer key for the exam. Consequently, Karan was detained in Dehradun and arrested. During interrogation, Karan confirmed that the exam papers were provided to him by Jagjit, ADG Singh said.
"The accuracy of the information is evident from the fact that the exam was conducted by TCS on behalf of Sardar Patel University in Jodhpur," Singh said, noting that Jagjit was working with TCS at the time.
The online exam for direct recruitment of prison guards was held in Oct 2018. Following a tip-off, an SOG team examined mobile phones of two suspicious candidates who took the test at a private college in Kukas near Jaipur. It was discovered that the two candidates, Omveer and Radheshyam, had received the answer key on their mobile phones the night before the exam.
"Sandeep Kandiyan had agreed to pay Rs 60 lakh to Karan for the leaked paper, but police got wind of the paper leak and the deal faltered," Singh said.
Subsequently, the SOG registered a case, and so far, 19 persons—including the mastermind of the leak, middlemen, and prison guards—have been arrested.
