Jaipur: With frequent glitches in the server at SMS Hospital forcing numerous patients to return without medical attention due to failure to complete registration formalities, the hospital administration has requested the department of Information Technology & communication (DOITC) for a sturdy resolution or a backup system for patient registration and testing during outages.
The patient management system at the hospital, called iHMS, was designed and developed by DOITC for the department of medical education (DOME) and the health department in 2017-18. It has strengthened medical and health services and improved patient care by streamlining hospital processes. Over 10,000 patients come to SMS Hospital daily for consultation with doctors at the OPD. When the server stops, patients struggle even to get X-rays and other tests done. SMS Hospital operates entirely online following the govt's digitalisation initiative.
"A lot of services at the hospital have already been made online. Server failures cause major disruptions in the facilities for patients. We have raised the issue with DOITC, asking them to resolve the issue as it has happened multiple times lately, forcing patients to wait till it gets restored. We have urged DoIT to provide an alternate measure to ensure patients do not face difficulties," said Dr Sushil Bhati, medical superintendent at SMS Hospital, to TOI.
