Engr, friends attacked in Chakeri’s road rage case
Kanpur: A group of people brutally attacked a software engineer and his two companions following a dispute over overtaking in Chakeri area of the city. The victims sought refuge at the police station, but the assailants chased them inside and continued their assault.
The three friends were returning after attending a birthday celebration. Following threats of fatal consequences for reporting to the police, the victims were hesitant to file an official complaint or undergo medical assessment. Nevertheless, the police arranged a medical examination for one victim and launched an investigation.
Software engineer Rahul Yadav, a resident of Adarsh Vihar said how he and his friends Alok Dhruv Narayan Singh and Pawan Singh Rathore were returning in a four-wheeler via Cantt on Thursday night after attending a birthday celebration. A group of people, accompanied by about more than two dozen associates, confronted them over an overtaking issue The situation temporarily diffused when Pawan Singh, an MES employee, mentioned contacting his unit colleagues. However, at Lal Bangla KDA intersection, the group waylaid them again. The assailants reportedly attacked them with various weapons, causing severe injuries and vehicle damage. During the assault, Rahul lost a tooth and his chain was stolen.
The victims managed to reach Chakeri police station, but the attackers followed them inside, continued their assault, and departed after issuing threats. Rahul reported that they were warned against filing police complaints under threat of death. Rahul, one among the victims, underwent a medical examination on Friday morning.
ADCP East Manoj Kumar Pandey said that action would be taken upon receiving formal complaints, and the police are reviewing CCTV footage from the police station and surrounding areas.
