Safe Kochi adalat held

Safe Kochi adalat held
Kochi: High footboards in buses, repeated honking, playing loud music and skipping services are some of the major complaints received against buses operating in the city at the adalat ‘Safe Kochi' held at Edapally on Friday. Although rash driving by private buses is a common issue, no major complaints in this regard were received at the adalat, which was held jointly by the police and the motor vehicles department.
Traders complained that private buses illegally plying via the narrow road behind Changampuzha Park during peak hours adversely affect their business as it creates traffic congestion in the area.
Another complaint stated that since the footboards in some buses are too high, elderly persons find it difficult to board the buses. They also mentioned that seats for senior citizens are placed in the position above the rear wheels, causing inconvenience for them. They want these seats to be replaced, said an MVD official who attended the adalat.
Though some of the complaints can be addressed by the MVD and police, some require the involvement of other departments since they concern infrastructure development. Hence, the complaints received will be sent to the other departments concerned for action.
Edapally traffic police said they received only 10 complaints during the adalat. The authorities will conduct more such adalats in the future.
