Shibila’s plaint: Probe on into police lapses
Kozhikode: Police have launched a detailed departmental probe into the alleged inaction on the complaint of Shibila, who was later stabbed to death by her husband Yassir.
Kannur Range DIG has asked Kozhikode Rural Crime Records DSP to submit a detailed report within 15 days.
Sub-inspector Noushad, who is also the PRO at Thamarassery station, was suspended on Saturday for lapses in handling a complaint filed by Shibila on Feb 28, which had mentioned the assault she suffered from Yassir.
Shibila's family plans to proceed by filing a complaint to chief minister and state police chief.
Shibila's family had alleged that had Thamarassery police acted timely on the complaint lodged by Shibila, the murder would not have happened.
Shibila's sister Sana told reporters that her sister had said that Yassir used to smoke ganja and that he was a drunkard and used to assault her. She said she was scared as he used to keep a knife with him while he was at home.
Fed up with him, Shibila had returned home twice. She lodged the complaint with Thamarassery police after coming home the last time. Sana alleged that they were told that the SI was busy with another case.
Meanwhile, the police will apply for Yassir's custody in the coming days for detailed questioning and evidence collection.
